Yield: 12 standard lip balm tubes (0.15 ounces each)
Cost: $5

Materials

Instructions

  • Weigh out all ingredients into a glass measuring cup, reserve the essential oil.
1 ounce beef tallow, 0.5 ounce beeswax, 0.3 ounce lanolin, 0.1 ounce sweet almond oil, 0.15 ounce vitamin E oil
  • Heat up water in a saucepan over medium heat. Once the water begins to simmer, reduce the heat to medium-low and place the measuring cup into the saucepan (this creates a double-boiler). The water should be just barely simmering.
  • Allow contents to melt completely, stir occasionally.
  • Remove the cup from saucepan and place it on a kitchen towel. Stir gently and allow to cool slightly (30-60 seconds).
  • Add in your essential oils and stir until well combined.
    ¾ teaspoon peppermint essential oil
  • Pour immediately into tubes, let them sit out (caps off) until fully solidified and cooled (a few hours or overnight). Once cool, they are ready to use!

Notes

You can switch out the peppermint oil for other essential oils. Just be sure to look up the recommended usage rates and whether or not they are safe to apply on the lips.
