What is the Carnivore Diet?

Some people say it’s the fastest way to reset your health. Elimination diets are popular for people seeking to avoid specific allergens or trigger foods. Some well-known forms are: keto, gluten-free, GAPS, AIP and Whole30 diets.

A carnivore diet takes these principles to the next level. The goal is to eat only the most bioavailable, easiest to digest foods. What are these? Well, in sum, they are animal foods. With a diet built around animal foods, dieters avoid potentially toxic plant compounds that may be secretly harming their health.

Many people find this WOE enjoyable because carnivore diet recipes are easy to make and naturally very satiating, leading to rapid fat loss. If you’re interested, learn more about what to eat on a carnivore diet and get started with our carnivore diet food list.

Ground Beef, Eggs, and Cheese

Fatty ground beef is an essential staple in my meal prep routine. Itโ€™s easy to work with, widely available, and budget-friendly. I always have ground beef in my freezer.

There are 20 grams of protein, 18 grams fat, 0 fiber, 0 carbs per 4 ounces of 85% lean grass-fed ground beef. This has a great protein-to-fat ratio for me and feeds my whole family. I can easily add carbs and plant side dishes to appeal to those who need them. You can find more meal prep ideas for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in my collection of carnivore ground beef recipes.

Another staple for low-carb dieters is eggs (assuming you tolerate them). We get fresh eggs daily from our chickens and ducks. Eggs help hold the casserole together. Without them, we would have a soupy mess. The breakfast vibe comes from using eggs, but honestly, I have no problem eating this carnivore casserole for breakfast or dinner!

Cream cheese and cream are the final ingredients in this delicious meal. Eating enough fat is important for maintaining energy levels and healthy hormone production. Two tablespoons of cream cheese has 1 gram protein, 10 grams fat, and 2 grams carbs making it a great way to increase dietary fat and flavor.

I added some herbs, do you think this would do well as muffin size for freezing? I think I might try it. Is this and similar easy recipes in your cookbook because I like the ease of it!!! Thank you

I have just made this for my lunch-time breakfast. I used 20% fat minced beef and 100g of cream cheese otherwise exactly as the recipe.
It was absolutely delicious, thank you so much, l will definitely make again!

Iโ€™ve been following a carnivore woe, but I have a problem eating enough protein. Eating 1/4 piece of this casserole will provide me with at least 30g. I used an extra egg and a handful of shredded cheddar. Other than that, followed directions as written. Bonus – I actually like it straight from the fridge ๐Ÿ˜Š Thanks for this recipe.

    1. Way to go, Angela! Cheddar is a great add in. I’m so happy to help find creative ways to increase protein. It’s an important macro. Visit again soon to try more recipes!

My husband and I absolutely love this! I was thinking of doubling the recipe and putting in a 9×13 pan. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Yes, Essie, go ahead and double the recipe. It works wonderfully! I do this all the time. Thanks for sharing your review. I’m so happy you and your husband are enjoying a carnivore meal together.

I made this today with half ground beef and half Butcherbox sugar free breakfast sausage. OMG, it’s even better! I realize this may make it Keto because of the spices in the sausage, but that still works for me.

      2. Hi Essie, This recipe doesn’t freeze well but will freeze sufficiently. The texture is softer and not quite as nice after freezing and thawing, but it’s still manageable.

What is the serving size for this? How many pieces do you eat for a meal? I made this and it was good, kind of greasy from the ground beef fat. I’m not used to to buying the 80/20.

  7. Would this still work okay without the cream and cream cheese? I’m dairy free but can use rendered beef fat if that helps.

    1. Kaya, you can make this recipe dairy-free by omitting the cream and cream cheese, and adding 2 tbsp of lard, tallow, or other fat of your choice instead. You could also get away without any added fat, but it’s nice for extra flavor, nutrition, and producing a moist texture. Hope this helps! Enjoy!
