How to Make Chocolate Avocado Mousse

Gather five ingredients and whip up a keto chocolate mousse recipe with avocado in 10 minutes or less!

Ingredients

Cacao paste – Get a dark chocolate flavor without sugar by using 4 ounces of cacao paste or baking chocolate.

Avocado – You’ll use approximately 4 ounces of edible green flesh. Hass avocados are the best type, in my opinion. I love the flavor!

Greek yogurt – The thicker, the better for this mousse. You’ll want a full-fat, thick, and creamy style of yogurt, so Greek yogurt is perfect.

Sweetener – I use powdered Monkfruit sweetener on a keto diet. The powdered form blends well and doesn’t leave a leftover gritty texture as a granular sweetener does. Use my affiliate link and save 20% off with the coupon code PRIMALEDGEHEALTH in checkout.

Hazelnut extract – Hazelnut extract blends with the cacao and gives a Nutella-like flavor. You can substitute with vanilla extract but it won’t be quite the same.

Step-By-Step Directions

Melt the chocolate. Begin by melting the cacao paste in a double boiler over medium heat. This will take about 5 minutes, so it’s good to start before preparing the other ingredients.

Blend the avocado. Slice the avocado open and remove the pit. Scoop the green meat into a bowl and puree it with an electric mixer until smooth.

Mix all ingredients. Slowly mix in the yogurt by adding four ounces at a time. Pour in the melted cacao and stir to combine. Sprinkle the sweetener evenly over the top of the chocolate avocado mixture. Add extract. Mix again well.

Chill until set. Divide the mousse evenly between four serving bowls and chill in the refrigerator for a minimum of two hours before serving.

Serve with fresh strawberries if you have them! The combination is a great way to celebrate summer-fresh ingredients.

Keto Avocado Mousse FAQ

Is avocado chocolate mousse keto-friendly?

Not all mousse is keto-friendly, but my recipe is! There are 17g total carb, 16g protein, 23g fat, 12g fiber, and only 5g net carb per serving.

How long does avocado mousse last in the fridge?

Generally, blended avocado mousse will stay fresh for up to three days. The longer avocado stores, the more the top surface will oxidize. Stirring the mousse quickly before serving is a good way to freshen it up again.

Can you freeze avocado mousse?

Avocado freezes surprisingly well. Freeze leftover mousse in individual portioned freezer-safe containers or ice cube trays. Then, thaw and eat or add to a smoothie for a special treat!

Can you make avocado mousse in advance?

If you’re looking for a dessert to make ahead, this low-carb chocolate mousse is a good one to try because it’s best after chilling in the fridge. I suggest a minimum chilling time of 2 hours in the refrigerator before serving.

Do I need to blend avocado mousse?

I recommend whisking with an electric mixer rather than blending this mousse with a blender. The whisk will do a better job of whipping the avocado until it is light and fluffy. If you don’t have a mixer, 30-60 seconds in high in a blend will work well enough and give you similar results.

I’m currently trying to lose a few lbs before a big trip and this was the perfect recipe to satisfy my sweet tooth but not disrupt my diet. So delicious, smooth, creamy and chocolatey. I think I’ll keep making this recipe long after my trip is over!

Wow, I just tried it and it really is so soft and so creamy in texture, I love it! I love the chocolatey and hazelnut(ish) flavor too — really a perfect combination. Thanks for your recipe 🙂
